I am a true extra large and was able to fit the large as well (for some reason they fit almost the exact same) however I like my clothes to be a little more fitted so I went the the large. My best friend is are and like her clothes to be a little more lose so she went with the XL. True to size will Be fine unless you want your clothes more fitted or lose. We wore them with no coats in about 40 something degree weather and were fine.
